La Canada Flintridge is wonderful community nestled against the Angeles National Forest to the north. Driving down Foothill Blvd., you can see that that both the residents and the businesses take great pride in being part of this great city. There is a constant strive towards maintaining the nostalgic appeals of the suburban ideals of old while keeping up with the changing times. This is very evident in the newer constructed commercial buildings and storefronts that are coming into town. For example, you will find a camera shop that has been serving this community for decades next door to a new eco friendly grocery store currently under construction.
Aside from the various stores and commercial offerings, La Canada is valued more for its community values, blue ribbon school districts, and beautiful housing. Other highlights include multiple parks where you will find many local events are held, the beautiful Descanso Gardens, and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Fun Facts:
During the Spanish era, the area was known as Rancho La Canada.
Prior to the city's incorporation in 1976, the area consisted of two
distinct communities, La Canada and Flintridge (the latter named after
developer and United States Senator Frank P. Flint
).
La Canada Flintridge had the longest city name in California with 18
letters until the year 2000, when the title was ceded to Rancho Santa Margarita.
